Award recipient 2023 Sophia Jansson together with associate Professor Taishi Watanabe (Waseda University), first Award recipient in 2021. 

The Japan Finland Design Association has awarded the JFDA Award 2023 to Sophia Jansson, chairperson of Moomin Characters Oy Ltd., for her significant contribution to cultural exchange between Japan and Finland. An award ceremony took place on 14 April at Helsinki Central Library Oodi. 

The JFDA Award was established by JFDA Japan and JFDA Finland in 2020 to commemorate the 20th founding anniversary of the sister associations

The aim of the Award is to make visible:

  • outstanding Japanese and Finnish designers and architects and their creative work

  • the work of the JFDA organisations in developing design and architecture collaboration and dialogue

  • the role of JFDA as a cultural bridge between the two countries
