Akira Minagawa to Receive JFDA Award 2025

HELSINKI, 2 JUNE 2025 - Japan Finland Design Association (JFDA) announces that the JFDA Award for 2025 is awarded to Japanese designer/artist Akira Minagawa for his outstanding creative and design work bridging his country and Finland. The Award will be presented on June 4 at the Riihimäki, Finland opening ceremony of Finnish Glass Biennale, an international glass festival held for the first time to which Minagawa has been invited as curator and featured artist.
The award commends Akira Minagawa’s original and prolific work in design and his creative renewing of cultural connections between Japan and Finland. Throughout his career, Minagawa has sought to build and nurture ties to Finland and the Nordic region also making visible the themes sustainability and craftmanship. His extensive and successful work in fashion, textile, furniture and tableware design through his brand “minä perhonen” celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
